Upcoming A*STAR JC Seminar: National Science Scholarship Briefing
Published February 16th, 2006 in News, ScholarshipsThrough BrightSparks, I received an email today on an A*STAR Singapore event known as the A*STAR JC Seminar. Basic details for the Seminar are as follows:
Date: 4th of March, 2006
Venue: Matrix Building, Level 4, Biopolis
30 Biopolis Street, Singapore 138671
(Near Buona Vista MRT Station)
Time: 2.30 pm
According to the email, A*STAR will be talking about its "Human Capital Development" vision, as well as the National Science Scholarship (BSc).
For those who do not know, the National Science Scholarship (NSS) is a highly demanding scholarship offered by A*STAR Singapore for a combined programme of undergraduate (BSc) and post-graduate studies (PhD). Recepients of the scholarship are expected to maintain an overall GPA of 3.8 and above for their undergraduate studies (that is, if you want to maintain your undergrad scholarship and win the post-grad NSS scholarship), and it is not uncommon for NSS scholars to attain perfect GPAs of 4.0.
But that’s not really important at the moment, so let’s go on. The Seminar will concern the undergraduate (BSc) segment of the National Science Scholarship. But since application requirements include having 4 distinctions in relevant ‘A’ level subjects, at least 1 ‘S’ Paper merit (2 ‘S’ Papers preferred), as well as SAT 1 (min. score: 2100) and SAT II (min. score: 1400) scores, I guess only academically-strong students need attend the Seminar.
Note: Even those who have not taken the SATs can apply. I think this exception is for students who only applied for UK universities. After all, only US universities place SAT results as a requirement.
