About two days back, it was announced that the Phillipines Government will be allocating a "massive" P500M (US$9.6 million) for tertiary education scholarships. Apparently, more money will be allocated for students in tertiary courses and technical and vocational courses.

The weird thing is that this move was deemed to be more economical than "…having new classrooms built for high school students." Hmm, there could be a case for this, but isn’t high school the place where students develop the most - at least academically?

In any case, this is surely good news, as is the entire announcement by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, given the problems Philippines has been facing for the past few years.
