IIM Tuition Fees Up
Published April 3rd, 2006 in News, UniversitiesIt was recently announced that there would be a 12 percent tuition fee hike for management studies at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Ahmedabad. Fees for post-graduate courses will be raised from Rs. 1.58 lakh to Rs. 1.77 lakh per annum, but lower income students will be spared from the additional burden. Additionally, more scholarships will be available for students from the lower income groups.
While the hike is substantial (comparable to Singapore Management University’s 15% fee hike a couple of months back), tuition fees (after the hike) are still barely half of the costs incurred by the IIM (Rs. 3.68 lakh per student per year). So, (at the risk of sounding callous) I’ll have to say that there is really little reason to question or disagree with the fee hike, especially since there are scholarships available for poorer students.
Note: The other IIM’s are raising their fees as well, but IIM-A’s tuition fees are still the highest among them.
